My wife, Jessica, is a serial entrepreneur, and after a trip to Chiapas in Southern Mexico over the New Year decided she wanted to share the wonderful crafts she had discovered with the wider world. With two friends, one a Spanish language professor and the other a gender and environmental studies professor, she founded a company called XUXO (choo-cho) that sources handcrafts directly from the village collectives, families, and craftspeople in Mexico who make them. Their mission is to share their love of the country through the artistry and stories they collect on their trips.
So, of course, we had a fiesta to celebrate.
Edna Vasquez, a supremely talented Mexican singer-songwriter now based in Portland, agreed to play.
