A HOUSE IN THE VINEYARD

The couple who approached us to design a house for them are full time engineers in addition to making top-notch pinot noir wine from their vineyards in the Yamhill Valley. The house is set amidst the vines at the top of a rise, with views to the Coast range and surrounding farms.

A modern, Japanese-influenced aesthetic was developed, with an open plan that allowed for intimate entertaining while taking advantage of the spectacular views. Lumber from a dairy barn that had been deconstructed onsite has been re-milled and is used for the structure of the great room, interior panelling and the textured exterior siding.

The public spaces are generously glazed, with deep overhangs to control sun and heat, and a high-performance wall construction to minimize energy use. Rainwater will be collected in a 7000 gallon underground cistern for landscape use. Construction began in the Spring of 2016.
